The specification we use is the same as that required by many professional herbalists. The tincture strength is high with a ratio of herb to organically produced pure grain alcohol of 1:2, so 1ml is the equivalent of 500mg of fresh herb. We use alcohol as this is the most efficient method to gain the synergistic benefits of the whole herb. Dosage levels are very small (2ml to 5ml) so you do not need to worry about the effects of alcohol.

The UK MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority) has announced that Echinacea should not be taken by children under 12 years of age because of a ‘low risk of allergic reactions’. They have indicated that this is not a serious safety issue and that parents should not worry if they have given it to children under 12 in the past.

We are therefore publishing this information, as required by the MHRA, but would point out that – in common with other companies selling Echinacea as a food supplement for children or with doses for children on the label – we have received no reports from users that such reactions have occurred. Our herbalist has used echinacea tincture with children over many years without any adverse effects and we feel this is an unnecessary, unreasonable and provocative stance taken by the MHRA.
